What are the new AMT 2003 Monte Carlo kits like?
A mixed bag, to put it politely. They are 1/25 scale, meaning most aftermarket decals will not properly fit them. The chassis is unchanged from AMT’s earlier issue kits, meaning it’s totally inaccurate for cars as they’re run today. The body appears a bit clunky, with a toy-like grille mesh molded into the snout and roof rails that are too tall. However, it’s a poor craftsman that blames his tools and these kits can be made to look very nice with some work. Lanny Hass has documented an AMT MC buildup at Lanny’s #20 MC buildup page. The lesson, as always, is that nearly any kit can be made to look great with some work.
