What are the negative aspects to using consensus at the Goat for organizing and decision-making?
There are a few different categories of problems that can arise or have arisen. There’s the general problem where someone doesn’t share major values with the group. In one case, someone we hired had a problem with the needle bins in the bathroom. We have biohazard bins for people to dispose of dirty needles. We don’t encourage people to shoot up in the bathroom, and we’ve had a few periods of crackdown on it which cleared that up — not entirely, but it’s not a problem anymore. Anyway, that was the one time the politics of the place were threatened, because someone was being a bit right wing about that issue and people feel strongly about it. Usually in a situation like that, where we hired someone who wasn’t really into the leftist politics, they end up getting frustrated and don’t end up sticking around.
