What are the negative and positve effects of urban renewal?
As I have seen it take place here in Houston, the negative affects is that generations of families are permanently displaced. Culture among the poor is being wiped out. Without adequate placement of these displaced people there is no positive aspect. Urban renewal here means moving out the poor, tearing down their neighborhoods, and rebuilding high dollar housing for rich Europeans. Urban renewal should be for the people that are already living in the inner city. I am not saying that one ghetto should be built on top of another—that’s ridiculous, for how do you build a ghetto? The problem is that city governments and real estate developers have no love or compassion—they are without Christ. Where there is no Jesus, Satan rules and he rules to the destruction of all. Jesus loves you.
