What are the necessary conditions for doing power trade in Eastern Nile?
What exactly is missing? The following need to be there: willingness to trade; adequate demand; adequate sources (supply). I believe all these necessary conditions are now there, thanks to the cooperation path we have embarked upon. Ethiopia has huge hydropower potential (source). As of now, it might not need all the power it could generate, which means there is an export potential. Egypt and Sudan, on the other hand, would absorb the extra power Ethiopia could export. There is a possibility for a win-win outcome here. What is missing is a roadmap and the cooperative frame work to achieve win-win outcomes. How would Power Trade benefit Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan in terms of ensuring reliability of supply of electricity and minimizing disruptions? It is obvious. I can refer to the experience of Power Trade (and transmission interconnection) among Egypt, Jordan and Libya. Whenever there is peak demand in Egypt (and slack in the other two countries), power flows from Jordan and Libya to Eg
