What are the national organizations that sanction and regulate the sport?
The American Kennel Club (AKC) sanctions agility trials held by AKC-member clubs. Both purebreds and mixed-breeds are eligible to compete, as of April 2010. The North American Dog Agility Council (NADAC) sanctions agility trials for non-AKC clubs like the Huckleberry Hounds Agility Club. Both purebreds and mixed-breeds may compete. The United States Dog Agility Association (USDAA) is another agility organization that sanctions trials. USDAA is especially popular in Texas and other southern states. Teacup Dogs Agility Association (TDA) sanctions trials for small-stature dogs. Canine Performance Events, Inc., (CPE) is yet another newer organization sanctioning trials. The differences between all these organizations are relatively minor. Sometimes equipment specifications are different. Eligibility standards may vary. Scoring procedures and other regulations will also vary. The two organizations most active throughout the West and Northwest are AKC and NADAC.
