What are the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA 1582) medical and fitness standards?

0

The pre-employment medical/fitness standards for Calgary Firefighters have been set by the department’s Occupational Health Physician and follow the requirements outlined in the NFPA 1582 Standard on Comprehensive Occupational Medical Program for Fire Departments (2007 Edition). Firefighters must execute duties and assignments in a manner which is safe to themselves and others. On receipt of a job offer, recruit candidates will undergo a comprehensive medical examination and fitness assessment to determine if they are medically “fit-for-duty” and also to rule out any medical conditions that are classified as “CATEGORY A” under NFPA 1582. “CATEGORY A” medical conditions shall not be certified as meeting the medical requirements of the standard. Please refer to the Downloads for a listing of disqualifying medical conditions. A complete copy of the NFPA 1582 standard can be obtained through the National Fire Protection Association at 617-770-3000. • Where can I find information on becomin
