What are the must read Vampire non fiction books?
A vampire nonfiction book is an oxymoron, or in other words, a contradiction in terms. Vampires are 100% complete and utter fiction. Therefore, anything written about them, unless it’s a review of “vampire literature” is fiction. You cannot have “nonfiction” about a fictional character. By the way Countess Bathory did not drink the blood of virgins, she bathed in it in a vain (both meanings of the word) attempt to retain her youthful appearance.
There is ‘Dracula Was a Woman’ by Raymond McNally, which I think is out of print but you can buy it off Ebay or Amazon. That was about a Hungarian Countess named Erzsebet Bathory and drank the blood of young female virgins to retain her youth. He has also written various books about vampires, but I think are mostly fiction. There is also ‘Bathory: Memoir of a Countess’ by A. Mordeaux. ‘The Trouble with the Pears: An intimate portrait of Erzsebet Bathory’ was also one I think. Or ‘The Bloody Countess: Atrocities of Erzsebet Bathory’ There are also books on Vlad Dracula, although he wasn’t exactly a vampire like many people think. Raymond McNally has also written books about the man as well. I find Elizabeth Bathory fascinating to read about, but I guess that might just be me.
