What are the movie ratings in Italy, and who rates movies in Italy?
If you mean “ratings” as MPAA, it’s called “Commissione di Revisione Cinematografica”, composed by one age of development psychologist, two expert in cinematography (cinematographic culture), two representative of parent associations, one expert representative of animal protection associations; two representative of cinematographic biz. A movie can be rated “Tutti” (T), “all”, means “all ages”; “Vietato ai minori di 14 anni” (VM14), you must be 14 in order to see the movie; “Vietato ai minori di 18 anni”, (VM18) you must be 18. In theory a movie can still be banned, in fact it doesn’t happen. It’s year there’s talking about changing it all (starting from making officially impossible to ban a movie), but till now nothing changed, yet. Ratings are mandatory for theatrical release only, other kind of restriction do exist for free-to-air television.
