What are the mountain ranges and cold currents that surround the Kalahari Desert?
The Kalahari Desert (most of which isn’t technically desert) is about 100,000 sq. miles (259,000 sq. km) in size and covers much of Botswana, the southwestern region of South Africa and all of western Namibia. Along the coastal areas of that country it’s commonly referred to as the Namib Desert. The like much of southern Africa, it is a high plateau, criss-crossed by dry rivers beds and dense scrub. There are two minor mountain ranges, the Karas and the Huns. The Benguela Currentis the broad, northward flowing ocean current that forms the eastern portion of the South Atlantic Ocean gyre. It is the source of very cold water through ocean upwelling in the southern Atlantic.
