The Native American place names make Washington a more colorful place, and you can always tell when the new anchorman is not local when he doesn’t know how to say these names. Skookumchuck means, “strong water,” and it is the name of a river and a town. Puyallup is an Indian tribe, and now the name of a small city. The Puyallup Indians have lived along the shores of Puget Sound for thousands of years.
