Firstly, it will probably be quite hot in December so be prepared. You will need mosquito repellent in the evenings and sunblock during the day. In Sydney I would suggest you take a ferry trip to Manly Beach, and also visit Bondi Beach. Bondi is a particularly famous place to spend Christmas if you are there then. Explore the historical The Rocks area that was built by convict labour – lots of little galleries and shops now. Do a Harbour Bridge climb, and make a day trip to the Blue Mountains. Take a wander around Darling Harbour and Chinatown. Sydney is probably the best place in the world to spend New Year’s Eve if you will still be there. There are areas in Sydney where the majority of the population are migrants, eg Leichardt is ‘little Italy’ and Cabramatta is ‘little Vietnam’, these areas can be interesting to explore.
