Possibly the naval battle of Jutland. Although just about a technical victory for the Germans, it led to the German surfacec fleet being bottled up and not seriously used subsequently. Thus the Germans relied increasingly on submarine warfare, which eventually led the USA into the war, which through sheer weight of numbers led to the Allied victory.
