New customs declarations were introduced in Bulgaria on August 13, 1999. The customs administration has issued certain rules for foreign nationals visiting Bulgaria for various reasons – tourism, business, visiting people, transiting and persons on temporary stay. Following are the most important provisions: • All foreign nationals upon entering and leaving Bulgaria complete currency customs declarations. Currency with a value in excess of 2,000 levs has to be declared. The traveller retains the completed declaration stamped by the customs officer until departure from the country. Foreign nationals may export convertible currency in amounts that do not exceed the amounts of such currency imported and declared upon their entry in the country.
