What are the most important attributes a person can have if they want to get into database administration?
The most important thing is a natural ability for data and numbers – to be able to see how tables should join, how to get a result, or how to construct tables and indexes, without having to sit down and map out relationships through laborious formulae. What do you think your next career move will be? I would like to start my own company, with a primary focus on MS SQL Server products, add-ons, etc. I believe I have the business skills, technical know-how and ideas necessary for it to succeed. What advice would you give to anyone considering a career in database administration? There are three pieces of advice I would give: • Gain qualifications – even though I said earlier that training/education is not essential for many IT jobs, an education does assure that you have the minimum skill set to qualify you to work in the profession.
