What are the most entertaining board games for 2 adults?

Oh, talk about my favorite boardgame of all time! But since you asked about other games in addition to my beloved Settlers… Blokus – this game is simple and fun. You take plastic geometric pieces that will remind you of Tetris blocks and you compete to fill in the board with these blocks better than your opponent. The game requires skill and strategy – but it’s very straight-forward, and generally games are not long at all. 2-4 players. Risk – sorry, this one is time-consuming. But I have to throw it in because my hubby and I love our Risk nights together and get really into making popcorn and brownies and opening a bottle of wine for the ultimate game of world domination. You just need a few hours to complete it…. Stratego – consider it Battleship for adults. It’s a game that requires strategy, a bit of luck, and a competitive edge. But it’s a simple game. No fuss, no muss. And games are quick. Easy to play while you’re watching tv in the background. Hmmm….me thinks it’s time fo

Thats a pretty broad question, and I’m not sure what you mean by entertaining 🙂 So I’ve seperated my lists for you into 3 categories. I can give you more in any specific category if you’d like.

1. Simple Quickish Games

  • Hive (like chess but with tile pieces; note that this is ONLY a 2 player game)
  • Banannagrams (scrabble with letter tiles on a timer)
  • Guillotine (you are an executioner during the french revolution. The person who collects the most heads wins! Different heads have different points. OK, when I type that out it sounds gruesome, but its not. Its light hearted a fun!)
  • Khet (its chess with laser and really makes you think hard about each move)
  • Citadels (build a city with cards, fairly quick)

2. A little more complicated; Competitive

  • Evolution (you each build species and try to eradicate your opponent’s species. You can add traits to your species to make them hardier, or harder to kill, easier to feed, etc.)
  • Roll through the ages (roll dice to build your civilization)
  • Dominion (a card game where you build a deck while you play. I prefer this game with 2 players because it keeps the pace snappy. Some expansions will loose flavour with only 2 players. Has extremely high replayability)
  • Carcassone (While this can accomodate more playes, 2 people doesn’t dilute the game. Tile placement ).
  • Race for the Galaxy (Steep learning curve, but it is great with 2 players!)
  • Ascension (This is a card game with a small board. There is also an app for this game if you’d like to try the app out before buying the physical board game)

3. Co-operative

  • Pandemic (while it is better with 3 players, you can play with 2 people. Try to save the world from a set of diseases!!)
  • Dead Men tell No Tales (you are looting a burning pirate ghost ship…)
  • Yggdrasil (you play a Norse God and are attempting to save Asgard from invaders/destruction)

  • Forbidden Island or Forbidden Desert (dry to achive a goal of collecting artifacts before the island sinks/is buried by sand. Good fun. Best with 2 – 3 players. 4 makes it more difficult).
