What are the most effective ways to discipline 3 -11 yr olds?

The most effective way to discipline is with patience and understanding, most problems arise from mis-communication or frustration. Taking the time to talk about whatever the issue is can clear up alot of situations. With my toddler, when discipline is needed I give him a time out ( 1 min for each year old they are) and it’s a way of making him realize that what he did isn’t acceptable and that if he does it he will have to do something he doesn’t like. Yelling, hitting, etc. are not effective in discipline and actually aren’t really classified as discipline anyways so do not resort to that, it will create more problems than you already have. For older kids, like 8-11 sometimes effective tools are taking items away for certain things, or allowance etc. But positive reinforcement is the best way to keep a child wanting to do the right things.
