The most effective teaching, regardless of whether you are in an academic or corporate setting is hands-on learning using real problems, usually developed from case studies. Trainees should work in small teams. After basic directed training on any new equipment/software they will be required to use in their jobs, provide the trainees with some basic information about a specific case and give them some time to develop questions that should elicit additional inputs from the case study. Provide additional information, and have them continue the process. As they work through the case study, they will learn: 1. How to use the new tools they must use 2. Critical thinking skills 3. Teamwork skills This can be done piecemeal, by providing basic equipment/software instruction followed by basic case study information.
