The most common type of treatment for skin cancer is the removal of the tumour by surgeons. The order of procedure is preventative (prophyhytive) surgery, diagnostic surgery, staging surgery, curative, surgery, debulking (or cytoreductive) surgery, palliative surgery, supportive surgery and restorative (or reconstructive) surgery. The side effects of surgery can leave a formation of scar tissue, Lack of normal tissue regrowth i.e loss of skin tissue, Limited access to the lesion if it is deep within the skin and a high rate of recurrence of the skin cancer. Laser therapy is surgery using a highly focused beam of light that destroys the cancer cells. This therapy is advisable for very small lesions.
