What are the most common problems seen in Title I Reading students?
Usually I see students with one of two problems. The first is that they don’t have basic vocabulary or decoding skills. These kids need to get some vocabulary built up fast. The second, more common problem is that the student does not grasp the meaning of the sentence or the paragraph. Since in Mid School we are Reading to Learn, and are supposed to have learned to read already, this is frequently the basis of a teacher’s recommendation that a student be in Title I.
