What are the most common mistakes that families make when compiling their dossier?
The most common and also a time consuming mistake that adoptive families make is with the required notary seals. Families will use notaries with expired (or close to expiring) commissions and the notary will not sign his/her name exactly the same way it appears on the notary stamp. Lastly, notaries often neglect to write or type the jurat statement that must state the following: “Signed and sworn to before me in ____ County, __ (State) on ___ (date).” If the notarization is done incorrectly, the document must be redone, and this is very time consuming and frustrating.
