What are the misrepresented advantages of off site data hosting to the tire store dealer?
1. Reliability. When dealers are given information about the reliability of the service, they are typically given down time statistics relating to the main facility in which the ASP rents his space. Tire store dealers sometimes come away thinking that their down time will be as infrequent as that of the hosting facility. This is certainly not the case. The reliability of the hosting facility only insures reliability of services to the ASP, not to you, the tire dealer. The reliability of the ASP is another issue. The quality and maintenance of the equipment inside the ASP’s cabinet is usually a complete unknown. If the ASP goes down, the tire dealer goes down, even though the hosting facility stays up. Technical difficulties aside, an ASP is subject to financial failure like any other business. The ASP model has been around for a while but has never gained industry acceptance.
