What are the minimum training requirements for volunteer firefighters in Georgia?
Volunteer firefighters hired or appointed after July 1, 2004, just complete a basic training course as prescribed by GFSTC. Currently, the basic training requirement for volunteers is Module one plus an approved structural fire control course. The structural fire control course requirement has been deferred to July 1, of 2005 so that departments around the state can acquire qualified structural instructors for the live fire course requirement. Incumbent volunteers, those hired or appointed before July 1, 2004, do not have to attend any additional training as long as they currently hold Module one or the Basic 101 certificate. Incumbent volunteer firefighters that do not hold either certificate must either attend Module one training or successfully complete the Module one written exam as long as prerequisite training has been obtained.
