You must be at least 18 years of age, you must have a basic, unrestricted NJ automobile driver license (class D), you must be able to meet U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) vision requirements and you must be able to meet DOT physical fitness requirements. CDL applicants under the age of 21 may travel only within NJ (intrastate, not interstate) and may not receive the hazardous material (hazmat) or passenger endorsements.
