What are the minimum employment standards to qualify for police officer certification in North Carolina?
* Be a citizen of the United States; * Be at least 20 years of age; * Be of good moral character as verified through a background investigation; * Have been fingerprinted and a search made of fingerprint files for any record; * Not have been convicted by a court of a felony, serious misdemeanor or several less serious misdemeanors; * Be a high school graduate or have passed the General Educational Development Test; * Have completed a Commission-accredited Basic Law Enforcement Training course; * Have been examined and certified by a licensed physician as fit to perform the duties of a police officer; * Have been interviewed by the department head or his/her representative to determine the applicant’s suitability; * Have produced a negative result on a drug screen administered according to the specifications established by the Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.
