The majority of Alnico magnets I have measured on “Patent Applied For” pickups have the same dimensions used in the older P-90’s that are often called “Soapbar” pickups. The general dimensions are 2.5″ long, .50″ wide and .125″ thick. The magnets are magnetized North and South across the .50″ dimension. The magnets are sand cast and at times surface ground to yield proper dimensions and tolerances. 842. I have an old P-90 pickup with laminated plastic for the top and bottom. I tried to adjust one of the pole pieces and the screw head broke off. How can I get the rest of the screw out without damaging the rest of the bobbin? I often get pickups like this and it usually occurs when the screws become oxidized, corroded and can easily break when being removed. I would first soak the rest of the screws including the bottom plate mounting screws with a penetrating oil to help lubricate and soften the oxidation.
