What are the meaning of element, compound and mixture..?
An Element is a substance that cannot be broken down into anything simpler by chemical means. It is made up of atoms of one kind only. Some elements can consist of single atoms, whereas as others can consist of molecules, such as O2, S8 and P4. A Compound is formed when two or more elements become chemically combined together. The elements react chemically and chemical bonds exist between the atoms involved. The elements react in definite amounts, and therefore a compound has a definite chemical composition. A compound often does not resemble the elements from which it was formed. Often it cannot easily be converted back to the elements from which it is formed. A Mixture is formed when two or more different substances are mixed together. There is no chemical combination. The substances can be present in any proportions. Often they can be identified visually within the mixture. Often the components of a mixture can be easily separated, e.g. a magnet can be used to separate iron filings
