What are the MDG health-related indicators?
The MDG indicators related to health are a mix of health outcome (prevalence and death rates) and service output measures (coverage and use of specific health interventions). “Health” and “health-related” refer to indicators that are truly “health” such as “malaria prevalence” or that concern critical factors for health, e.g. “access to improved water supply” or “dietary energy consumption”. WHO is responsible for reporting on 17 of the 18 health indicators. The 18th health indicator, proportion of population below minimum level of dietary energy consumption”, is the responsibility of the Food and Agriculture Organization, although WHO is involved in the definition of the “minimum level of dietary consumption” which is part of this indicator.
