What are the May/Junes?
• MayJunes is a grades 5/6 multi-age looping classroom which requires a two year commitment from the students and their families. Two teachers share the responsibility of two full-size groups of children in two connected full-size classrooms. Our day is a balance of grade specific instruction during language arts and math, and multi-age learning during science and social studies. Our goals are to help our students: grow through accountability and responsibility, appreciate and enjoy learning and discovering, and strive to become independent and self-directed learners. The MayJunes’ program accomplishes this through a variety of research-based teaching strategies that promote student achievement. Teamwork, cooperation, and goal-setting are woven into our daily routines to which the success of our program is built. Along with Stonington’s own curriculum and academic programs, the MayJune students are also involved in an interdisciplinary, inter-district program called the Magical Mystery
