What are the mandatory courses for New York State and how often do I have to take them?

There are two mandatory courses in New York State, the Identification and Reporting of Child Abuse and Infection Control and Barrier Precautions. The child abuse recognition course is a once in a lifetime fulfillment. You should have this course completed before submitting your application for licensure or certification to the New York State Education Department (NYSED), Licensing Division. The infection control course needs to be completed once every four years throughout the life of your license. The NYSED gives you a period of 90 days from the date your license is initially granted to complete the infection control course. For further licensing questions or to determine if you need to take either of these courses, please contact the NYSED, Licensing Division at 518-474-3817 or visit their Web site at www.nysed.gov.
