We export mostly heavy machinery, industrial supplies, and non-consumer goods. Basically we export a lot of the stuff that other countries use to make the finished goods that we often end up buying. That’s pretty much how a global economy works. The Dollar’s increase in value compared to other currencies means we can buy more things for less money, meaning our rate of import growth would slow. It also means that other nations must pay us more for the same goods. This all sounds good but the problem is that our global markets are tied together so tightly that when one market falls that all start to. China’s slowing growth means that they are less likely to invest in the United State(like by buying our debt or giving us loans). Now if the the Dollar’s increase in value was backed by our own growth I would say that we could then invest in China and help them, the problem is that the Dollar’s recent upturn is more predicated on the fall of the rest of the world’s currency.
