What are the major religions in the world and how do they relate to each other ?
Judaism, Christianity, Islam; Buddhism, Hinduism; Taoism, Jainism, and Shinto in Japan are some of them. Christianity is directly ‘descended’ from Judaism, both follow the Old Testament. Islam is related to Christianity and Judaism, although some Christians dispute this. Both Jews and Muslims believe they are descended from Abraham in the Old Testament and Koran. Christians believe in Abraham, I don’t know if most believe he is an ancestor of theirs. Buddhism is in some ways an offshoot of Hinduism, one of the oldest religions in the world. I think the Indian religions of Sikhs and Jains are somehow related to Hinduism, but I am not sure. Taoism is a Chinese religion I don’t know much about; Shinto is the Japanese worship of ancestors and at one time the Emperor of Japan. Many people follow both Shinto and Buddhism.
