What are the major drawbacks in hospital architecture in India today?
The first and foremost is compromises done due to shortage in the budget in the projects undertaken. In such cases, either the promoters should scale down the size of the project or compromise with movables like medical equipment which can always be purchased at a credit. But a building once built can not be changed. It can always become large over a period of time but not the best. Expenditure on healthcare is rising. But promoters are still building hospitals good for yesterday and today but not for tomorrow. Most of the foreign architects who have done one or two projects in India have had an experience of not being paid properly or having to compromise on their work. Hence one should keep in mind not to compromise on standards and the building but on the items that they buy. It is a question of survival vs principles.
