What are the major differences between what restaurants are doing now and what the new federal framework will require?

The new federal framework that builds upon NLEA will ensure that diners in thousands of chain food service establishments in all fifty states will have access to detailed nutrition information. The current voluntary methods of disclosure provide much of this information; however, not every food service establishment participates or provides nutrition information in writing in the restaurant. The proposed approach requires that any food service establishment selling food as part of a chain that operates 20 or more establishments must provide consumers access to detailed nutrition information about the food they serve in writing in the restaurant. This uniform, national approach will ensure that all consumers have access to detailed nutrition information in a consistent and convenient manner.
