What are the major differences between the SansAmp Classic and the SansAmp GT2?
The most obvious difference is versatility. While the GT2 will offer Fender-, Marshall- and Boogie-style amp emulations, the Classic will do all those, as well as Ampeg-, Hiwatt- and Vox-type. Some folks love the “fiddle factor” of the Classic while others hate it. The GT2, on the other hand, is up and running with a minimum of tweaking. The Classic will also give you more subtle nuances in the “clean-to-just-on-the-verge-of-breakup” range. Another major difference is that the Classic has no EQ of its own, since it was primarily intended to plug right into a mixing console, which would have its own EQ. If you use it as a stompbox in front of an amp, you will be dependent on the amp’s tone controls to shape the final sound. The GT2 has active EQ on-board, so you can radically switch between your amp’s own tone (when the GT2 is in bypass), or the emulated tone (when the pedal is engaged).
