What are the major components of the $47 million in reductions to the College-only budget?
February 9, 2009 The plan calls for $47 million in reductions through fiscal year 2011. The major reduction is in compensation: $28 million. The majority of the savings will result from the freeze in salaries for fiscal year 2010. Faculty who receive promotions will receive the usual adjustments. Full-time staff earning less than $50,000 will receive a $1,000 supplement (except for those at DMS). Compensation expenses represent more than half of Dartmouth’s operating budget. The next largest components of the $47 million in reductions are savings from deferring building projects ($10 million), lowering discretionary spending ($8 million), and increased revenue ($1 million).
