What are the major cities in Chile?
Biggest city is Santiago, the capital. It’s divided in “comunas” or districts with different city councils (such as Puente Alto, Las Condes, Providencia), but greater Santiago is just one city of over 6 million people. Chile is divided in 15 regions now (two new regions appeared a couple months ago) and each one has a capital city, a fairly big city in some cases. Some cities are right next to each other and if you consider them as one they are quite big. Such is the case of: Concepcion – Talcahuano – San Pedro (8th region) Valparaiso – Vina del Mar (5th region) Other big cities are: Rancagua, Antofagasta, La Serena, Puerto Montt.
