What are the major changes to the certification program?
There are two major changes. The exam has been available to only Registered Technologists (R.T.s) who have gone on to specialize in sonography and who document completion of more than 1,500 sonography procedures. The first change is that eligibility has been extended to non-R.T. graduates of accredited educational programs in general sonography. Second, exam content has been expanded to include the entry-level knowledge and skills covered by educational programs. The exam is designed to be congruent with the JRC-DMS Standards and Guidelines. The exam´s primary purpose is entry-level certification; in addition, educational programs will find it useful for evaluating instructional outcomes.
