The major challenge is definitely the lack of government support for the packaging sector, even while the food-processing sector gained support and importance in the recent years. The food package sector must be developed simultaneously or even in advance for better results in food processing industry. There are a couple of issues faced by the manufacturers in the packaging industry. The lack of concessions from government, highly fluctuating raw material prices and pressure in margin prices are the major issues. Of course, there are some excellent players in the industry like the Hindustan Tin Works, AGI, ITC and Paper Products, producing high quality materials. But we should consider the stringent regulations of European countries in packaging, and more Indian companies should equip themselves to comply these standards for winning the global market.
