What are the major art prizes in America?
Portrait Society of America has a yearly conference and international portrait competiton. They usually get close to 1500 entries from which perhaps 8 or so are judged finalists. The winning portrait must be judged in person at the conference since it is impossible to judge the quality of fine art on the basis of digital images, photographs or even slides. The prizes in order are: 1) The WILLIAM F. DRAPER GRAND PRIZE 2) BEST OF SHOW 3) FIRST PLACE 4) SECOND PLACE followed by various honor awards. The annual convention and top winning artists are featured in International Artist Magazine which usually devotes a page to each painter, featuring an image of the work and a quote from the artist. This year’s top recognition went to: Glenn Harrington http://www.glennharrington.com/ Adrian Gottlieb http://www.adriangottlieb.com/ and http://www.gottliebstudios.com/ Jeremy Lipking http://www.lipking.com/ Robert Armetta http://www.robertarmetta.com/ Further information about The Portrait Society
