What are the main values that characterize Generations X and Y?
As I noted earlier, both X and Y grew up in a comfortable environment in their years of childhood and adolescence. When these people enter the labor market, they have a harder time than their predecessors did. It was much easier for earlier generations to find work, become independent from their families and so forth. As a result, there is a sense of frustration and skepticism that logically extends to the way they view the working environment. Don’t forget that the working environment in our society has a lot of impact on social activity, starting with the period when marital couples and families are formed [and] on to the growth of social networks. Is there a conflict between the working environments of the four generations? Often when these topics are discussed with HR managers and other professionals, people make comments that reflect those differences.
