What are the main types of telephone calls that can be made on a fixed wire service?
There are main categories of telephone calls which can be made from a fixed wire service: • Local Calls: are any calls made from your telephone service to another service which is located within your local call area group. This local call group is different for each customer and is the same amongst most telephone providers in Australia. • National Calls: are also known as “Long Distance” or “STD calls”. These calls are any calls which terminate outside of your local area. These calls are usually charged by the duration of the call. • Mobile Calls: are calls which have terminated to a mobile phone within Australia. This could be on the Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, Orange and 3 mobile networks. • International Calls: are calls which have been made to any international destination outside of Australia. • Other Calls: this call category includes the following: • Operator assisted calls • Calls to 13, 1300 & 1800 numbers • Calls to 1900 competition lines.
