2% of 12 to 17-year-olds used cocaine in the past year. That might seem like a small number, but it amounts to over 3,000 children risking their lives each year. But they’re not the only people using cocaine. Cocaine and crack cocaine are actually New Mexico’s biggest problem. They’re widely distributed, and widely used – which contributes to it being available to kids. Methamphetamine abuse is also a major problem. Although many of the labs that made methamphetamine in New Mexico have been closed down, that didn’t do much to decrease the usage – it’s now being shipped from Mexican labs. Club drugs are also widely used – especially in Albuquerque and Santa Fe. There are also ‘raves’ held regularly on U.S. Forest Service lands where kids party all night on Ecstasy (MDMA), Ketamine, LSD and other drugs.
