What are the main differences in training/selection between UK Special Forces and US Special Forces troops ?
There are many different types of Special Forces in both the US and UK and each is trained for different specialities- such as the SAS for hostage rescue and land based warfare where as SBS will be based on assault by sea (or air to sea). The US have a similar structure with the SEALS dealing with assault by sea and the HRT (Hostage Rescue Team) trainning in hostage rescue in buildings. Delta Force is believed to be trainned to take back airliners from terroists and are most secretive of the American forces. With regards to selection both US and UK will be looking for the same type of person. However with a few skills in relavent areas (such as being able to swim (SBS)) Training again will be varied depending on which group you join, however I think it is believed that the UK special forces are slightly better trained, which is the way of all British Forces and something the British pride themselves on – Being the best trainned Army, Navy or Airforce, even if they are tiny!
