What are the main differences between Presbyterianism and Catholicism?
Presbyterians have a lot of respect for Catholicism insofar as they (and all other Protestants) know Catholicism enabled the main biblical teachings to come down from the first century A.D., intact, to the time of the Reformation. Protestants just voted with their feet as regards the unbiblical and corrupted teachings. The system of church governance is radically different (presbyters being elders, and there being no bishops, priests or pope; the Presbyterian minister and his team of elders are all on equal footing). There is great emphasis on the authority of the Word of God, the Bible, with an outstandingly high quality of in-depth preaching in their plain church buildings. New buildings are light, airy, warm and of modern design. Old buildings can come across as austere but Presbyterians view the Church as the Body of Christ, comprised of believers, hence warmth is to be found in fellowship and worship. Their unaccompanied Psalm singing is not a million miles removed from Catholic p
