What are the main differences between Kwik Build Panels and Structural Insulated Panels made of wood sheathing (usually OSB) and foam core?
Although similar in thermal effectiveness, wood sandwich/foam core SIPs weigh approximately 4.2 lbs to 4.6 lbs per square foot, depending on wall thickness and window or door openings . They are more labor intensive and costly to install, requiring specialized skills and heavy equipment to transport and position panels. Conventional Wood sandwich SIPS: • 4 ½” panels: 4.2 lbs/SF -135 lbs. for a 4’ x 8’ panel • 6 ½” panels: 4.6 lbs/SF -148 lbs. for a 4’ X 8’ panel Kwik-Build Panels weigh less than one third as much and do not require heavy equipment to transport or install. • 3 ½” panels: 1.3 lbs/SF- 42 lbs. for a 4’ X 8’ panel • 5 ½” panels: 1.5 lbs/SF- 45 lbs.
