What are the main challenges to to implementing lean manufacturing principles in the food industry?
As in any industry it is difficult because we have generally organized our businesses using mass production rather than lean principles and this builds in a great deal of corporate inertia across the whole business in things like policy, attitude, facility, procedures and process. Also, people are the key to success. All staff should be included in the change process and it is only through rising to the challenge of harnessing their full potential that companies will be successful.
