What are the longer-term health effects of heroin use?
Some of the longer-term effects include: scarred or collapsed veins, bacterial infections of blood vessels and heart valves, lung complications, Abscesses at injection sites, in the brain and elsewhere, clogged arteries or veins due to additives in street heroin, arthritis, emphysema and other rheumatologic disorders cause by immune reactions to contaminants and exposure to blood borne infections including HIV, hepatitis A, B, C, sexually transmitted diseases including syphilis.
