Mainly cost, but most renewable are also limited by location. You cant put Wind power next to residential areas, due to their noise (although there are some quieter versions in the pipelines…I think they are more expensive though) You need a good strong flowing river with little cultural and ecological significance for Hydro Power (but even then it can be controversial – See Snowy River Scheme in Australia) You need an appropriate location for geothermal power – where the crust is relatively thin for best access to the hottest subterranean environment. There also needs to be a good solid rock structure appropriate for the generation, trapping and utilization of steam: not just any hot spot will do, you need the proper underground structures. Solar requires a sunny climate for best use, but you cant just whack them in any desert because wind will
