In March 2010, faculty and staff who teach courses bearing the “Ethnic Studies” designation were invited to participate in discussions about Ethnic Studies Courses. Through these conversations, the Ethnic Studies Subcommittee identified a set of learning outcomes that apply to all courses that meet the requirement, regardless of the specific content area in which the courses are found. These results were shared with and affirmed by the group that participated in the original discussions, as well as others who were unable to attend. In addition to whatever outcomes are expected for the specific content of the course, four overarching, “Ethnic Studies” learning outcomes were identified.
