Students learn the following: • To write and think critically. • To use written discourse to communicate effectively and persuasively. • To analyze non-fiction prose. • To identify weaknesses in argument. • To recognize modes of reasoning. • To identify and gather evidence. • To develop, organize, and present research-based arguments. • To approach writing as a form of design. • To develop an array of skills useful in the following: a) U of T’s majors and specialists, b) the professional workplace, and/or c) graduate or professional school. • To use the persuasive power of rhetoric ethically and in the service of the broader community.
